Conference of GCAF 2024

The Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and W-Foundation is co-organizing the Conference of Global Climate Action Forum 2024 (GCAF2024) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Key participants include all ministries of Cambodia, and high officials of global governments, corporations and organizations who will help advance the Forum’s mission to bridge the gap between ambition and action, fostering transformative and inclusive climate initiatives for a sustainable future.

At the Conference of Global Climate Action Forum 2024, the future vision of Cambodia’s new government led by H.E Prime Minister Hun Manet will be shared, and the Carbon Credit Alliance, Climate Action Alliance, Security Token Offering (STO) Alliance, and alliances in each field will be formed at the conference. Various sessions, side-events, networking will be held, including talks with the Highest officials of the Cambodian government.

GCAF 2024 is a High-level forum, multi-stakeholder engagement platform to advance cross-sectoral progress around net zero and nature-positive goals; a truly inclusive climate and nature convening that advances engagement from all sectors and regions of the world. The Forum will convene global business and philanthropy leaders, along with policymakers, to facilitate co-creation, collaboration, and acceleration to unlock innovative solutions and drive impactful results.

Conference participants are invited to bring their expertise and resources to deliver tangible climate and nature solutions at a global scale. The GCAF2024 will drive actionable outcomes across key themes, including de-risking green investments, accelerating technology transfer, developing ‘green shots’ for catalytic impact, and investing in resilience for the most vulnerable.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CAMBODIA

Geography

Cambodia borders Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. The country has 443 km of coastline and covers 181,035 square kilometers in the southwestern part of the Indochina peninsula. It lies within the tropics and its southern points are only about 10° above the equator. With a total population of 16.59 million, Phnom Penh is capital city of Cambodia.

It is roughly square in shape, and much of the country’s area consists of rolling plains. Dominant features are the large, almost centrally located, Tonle Sap (Great Lake) and the Mekong River, which traverses the country from north to south and is the 12th longest river in the world.

Climate

The average minimum temperature is around 27°C (80°F); it rarely exceeds 28°C (83°F) or falls below 25°C (78°F). The average precipitation observed in May is 120 mm (4 in); it is expected to rain on around 13 days this month.

Electricity voltage

The local voltage is 220V, 50Hz. If you travel to Cambodia with a device that does not accept 220 Volts, you will need a voltage converter. The power sockets that are commonly used in Cambodia are those with 2 round pins (like in Europe) and those with 2 flat pins (like in North America). If your appliances plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.

Banking

The US dollar is the main currency used in Cambodia, but the Cambodian Riel is the national currency and more widely used. Prices in hotels, shops and restaurants are now usually quoted in US dollars and Riel. Change of less than $10 will generally be given in Riel.

You can use ATMs anywhere in Cambodia, particularly in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville to withdraw US dollars. The following cards are accepted at the ATMs: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Cirrus and Plus. Major credit cards are accepted in the larger hotels and in restaurants.
Banks are open Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm and from 8am to 11am on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday.
